The role of St Anthony's Church is to serve the needs of the Catholic community in the Potters area and beyond. In an effort to foster community and raise funds, parishioners organize two activities each year - a tea party and a bar-B-Q.

St. Anthony’s Church was intended to serve the entire Parish of St. Georges, however, the Catholic community in Potters is very small, and there are only about four or five families from the area who worship at St. Anthony’s. While the full community numbers between 100 and 150 persons, only 40 to 50 persons attend mass on a regular weekly basis.

In an effort to foster community and raise funds, parishioners organize two activities each year: a tea party and a bar-B-Q. Informally, some members spend a bit of time after each Sunday mass in fellowship. Effort is made to maintain ties between the Cathedral and St. Anthony’s by becoming involved with activities planned by the Cathedral church.

On the matter of taking steps to improve the St. Anthony’s Church community, the following ideas are being considered:

  • Developing a committee to develop programs to foster growth;
  • Undertaking a study to identify the Catholics within the area and to reach out to those who are no longer actively practicing their faith;
  • Proposing the formation of a group to help groom youth to be more involved in church life and within the community in general;

Among the challenges experienced is the difficulty of having most of the work and responsibilities fall on the shoulders of the same persons over and over. This is as a result of the few persons attending church regularly.
